What i know about the mission of the sisters of Notre Dame and their values is that they care a lot about giving back to society and giving back to people.
I have had a lot of opportunities to honor the sacredness of others because with this class i have gotten to do an internship with a good non-profit organization and we got to meet and work on a big project where we got to meet other people.
There has not been any issues that have arisen within the NDNU campus during my 2 years here having to do with ethnicity.
Yes i have had opportunities to address state and local problems within other classes like within international relations I have had the opportunity to address problems that happen locally as well as internationally.

Ch 12 Blog

I believe that my Community Partner gets money from fund raising and from donations since it is a non-profit organization so it would be a public money source. My community partner is getting a reliable source of income provided in a consistent reliable manner since it is still up and running. The consistency of the source of income affects my community partner because it allows more opportunities for the organization to host more events or do more of what its mission is to do within the community. I do not believe any other organization in the community of East Palo Alto depends on my community partner to fund it the people just rely on my community partner to host different events to get more people involved in the community.

Local Government Structure and Leadership

The community in which my community partner works is a city, the city of East Palo Alto to be exact. It is a city that is filled with many immigrants and low income families many people would describe it as being ghetto due to all of the gangs and violence that at one point went on in the neighborhoods. I in all honesty do not know what kind of Mayor the city has because I am not from this side of the Bay so I personally cannot say anything about the Mayor and how she/he works within the community. My community partner does have interaction with local government officials as well as state officials. ILEAD holds meetings, classes, and other events in which they invite the government officials and they attend most of the time. They go to support their community and to get an inside scoop as to what the people in that community want and need to keep their standard of living.

Local governments use their power to to preserve state and local values in the face of federal policies by creating different policies to block the federal law. Some local governments become sanctuary governments or cities if you will. Like in the case of immigration during modern times a lot of cities have became sanctuary cities because they are trying to bar themselves from Trumps immigration laws. Some local governments are also just ignoring the federal law and doing their own thing with it or some may also reword the law to make it fit with their values and opinions.

Blog #4

Subsidiarity in my opinion means taking up something at a local level so something  could get solved with the people who are living within the community. The topic of subsidiarity relates to the topic of devolution as talked about within our text book because when it talks about devolution it talks about giving power to the government on a lower level and solidarity means solving problem at a more local level and taking care of it at a local level.

Blog Topic #2

There is a very strong relationship with my CP and citizen participation because my CP, which is ILEAD, encourages citizens to take a lead within their communities and for them to go out and participate. They interact a lot because they are an organization that is suppose to encourage people to become leaders and to get their voices heard within the community. Citizen participation can affect my CP because it will give positive feedback to the organization and it will allow the organization to flourish as a company. It can also bring back negative aspects because as more people participate within the voting processes it ca change the way the government runs and maybe then the organization will cease to exist.

Blog Topic #1

There is tension between state and local governments because the state requires the local governments to do so much without the proper funding but when the state needs help they always look to the local governments for help. Another reason for the tension that is between the state and the local governments is that the state does not, at times, allow the local governments to make their own tax laws and make their own money in order to take care of the expenditures that they have within their jurisdictions. The local governments more often than not have to cut their budgets because the state is facing a money problem and does not have enough money to take care of other "more important" problems within their governments. The local governments end up taking the budget cuts and the people of the counties have to suffer.

The tension that is going on between the state and local governments is healthy for our political system overall because both systems sometimes do get along and work together in order to make the people of both local governments and state happy. For example, the state has forced local governments to enact certain committees that will help get the peoples voices heard both in local meetings as well as in state meeting. It can also be healthy because it can get our voices heard in a more broader sense. It allows for more of a competition between both systems that in the end can help all of the populous with more programs and more help from the government.
